The Business Back-Up Plan
A simple, done-with-you plan for service-based business owners who are ready to protect their clients, income and reputation.
Your business looks seemless from the outside. Behind the scenes, it's all on you.
You’ve thought about it.
What would happen if you got sick? If there was a family emergency? If something just… happened?
And every time you think about it, you tell yourself you’ll sort it out later.
But service-based businesses run on trust – the trust your clients have in you.
And when so much relies on one person, even a short absence can leave your clients without answers and your business without direction.
So what you need is a simple, usable plan that fits your business and means your clients are looked after if you can’t be there.
That’s exactly what the Business Back-Up Plan does.
Hi, I'm Bec
I spent a decade managing major events. Every single one had an operations plan and your business deserves the same.
When I started working behind the scenes of service businesses, I kept seeing the same gap. Bookkeepers, HR Consulants, social media managers – the kinds of businesses built on personal relationships and a reputation that took years to earn – all had one thing in common.
Their businesses were running well, they had clients relying on them and income depending on them, they had but nothing in place if they couldn’t show up.
I looked for something built for businesses like theirs. But instead I found corporate templates, IT frameworks, and 90-page documents designed for organisations with whole risk management teams.
Nothing for the woman running a thriving solo business from her home office.
So I developed The Business Back Up Plan.
Fifteen years of operations, event management and senior leadership, plus an MBA, means I can look at your business as a whole, see where the gaps are, and shape what matters into a plan that actually works.
I understand how much of your business sits with you right now. So let’s get it into a plan that means your business keeps moving, your clients stay looked after and everything you’ve built stays protected.
here's what changes when you have a business back-up plan in place...
- You know your clients are looked after even when you can't be there
- You can take a holiday, a sick day, maternity leave without the whole business going with you
- The mental load of "it's all on me" finally has somewhere to go
- You feel more professional – like you've got one more piece of the grown-up business you've built
- You can actually switch off because for the first time, there's a plan
the planning doesn't start from scratch
Your business already has more structure in place than you think. I ask the right questions, map what’s already there, and shape it into a plan someone else can actually use.
Every Business Back-Up Plan works through six areas:
Access
Logins, two-factor authentication, banking, tools. The stuff that becomes everyone’s problem at the worst possible time.
Clients & Commitments
Who they are, what’s booked, what’s time-sensitive and what can wait.
Knowledge
Where things live, how things work, what someone stepping in needs to get it 85% right.
Approvals
Who can make decisions, what authority they have, and how to handle the things only you’d normally sign off on.
Your Bench
The trusted people who can step in – not one person doing everything, but the right people doing the right things.
Communications
How your clients find out, what gets said, and who handles it – in a way that protects your relationships.
We cover everything so your clients are looked after, your income is protected and your reputation stays intact – no matter what.

the business back-up plan was built for you if:
- You run a small, but essential, service-based business (bookkeeping, social media, consulting, event services, etc.) and your clients rely on you personally
- You're mostly solo (or close to it) and the knowledge, relationships and decisions live with you
- Your business is established and running well – but you know that if something happened, there's no obvious person who could step in
- You care deeply about your clients and the thought of leaving them without a plan is what actually keeps you up at night
- You've been meaning to sort this out for a while. You just haven't found a version of it that felt like yours

FAQs
How long does the process take?
Most plans are completed within 3–4 weeks, depending on workshop availability and how quickly you’d like to move through the review.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
No. You don’t need documents or perfect systems. The pre-workshop questions give me the basics, and I guide the conversation from there.
Is this only for emergencies?
No. Most service-based business owners also use their plan to support time away, reduce the mental load or share responsibility more confidently – not just for unexpected situations.
Is this suitable if things feel messy behind the scenes?
Absolutely. Most of what we capture already lives in your day-to-day. You don’t need to tidy anything up – I help make sense of what matters and shape it into something usable.
What if things change after the plan is delivered?
Your plan includes a complimentary 6-month check-in. If your services or team evolve, we can update the plan or add support as needed.
Can this work if I don’t have a team?
Yes. The Solo plan is designed specifically for small service-based businesses. The plan simply outlines who could step in – whether that’s a partner, contractor or trusted colleague.
Can you help my team understand the plan?
Yes. If you’d like help walking your team through how the plan works, that can be added as optional support.
I'm not sure if I should choose Solo or Team. What should I do?
If you’re unsure which option fits, we can talk it through. The right choice depends on how your business is structured and who shares responsibility with you.
What if I don’t have a second-in-charge or anyone obvious who could step in?
That’s completely normal. Most small business owners don’t have a clear 2IC, and the plan still works. Part of this process is identifying who could step in if needed – whether that’s a trusted peer, contractor, colleague or friend – and outlining what they’d need to look after while you’re away.
